Intro

On The Move

In the international Hybrid 10tet Michiel Braam brings together top musicians from three different musical worlds: the classical Matangi string quartet, three improvising hornplayers (Carl-Ludwig Hübsch, Nils Wogram and Taylor Ho Bynum) and the rock-oriented Wurli Trio rhythm section (Pieter Douma and Dirk-Peter Kölsch).

The musicians contribute their personal background to the ensemble, but they are also invited to explore new musical worlds. Key element in this project is the collaboration between different musical personalities, thus creating a unique stylistic mix. Improvisation and unexpected twists and turns, the key elements in Braam's work, also play an important role in this Project.

The Hybrid 10tet will embark on a musical journey: Michiel Braam has written a special composition for each concert, referring to the ambiance of the individual venues.

Line-up:
Taylor Ho Bynum (cornet), Nils Wogram (trombone), Carl Ludwig Hübsch (tuba), Maria-Paula Majoor (violin), Daniel Torrico Menacho (violin), Karsten Kleijer (viola), Arno van der Vuurst (cello), Michiel Braam (piano), Pieter Douma (electric bass), Dirk-Peter Kölsch (drums)

Bio

On The Move

In the international Hybrid 10tet Michiel Braam brings together top musicians from three different musical worlds: a classical string quartet, 3 improvising horns and the rock-oriented Wurli Trio rhythm section.
For this group of musicians Michiel will write complete new music, using the strong features of all individual participants and creating a unique blend of all those lovely idiosyncrasies.

The music will be a representation of this journey; for every venue the Hybrid 10tet will visit michiel will write a specific portrait, so this tour will result in a collection of compositions that refer to one or more conspicuous elements of evert venue where the group plays. That can be a name, like in "Fat Centered Gravy", written for Sju Jazz Podium in Utrecht, the interior design of a venue, like in "Tilburg Fluorescent Tubes" for the Concertzaal Tilburg, the audience's views, in "Sound With A View" for Bimhuis or the building itself, like in "Three Grazing Arches" for the Orpheum Theater in Graz.

Line-up:
Taylor Ho Bynum (cornet), Nils Wogram (trombone), Carl Ludwig Hübsch (tuba), Matangi String Quartet: Maria-Paula Majoor (violin), Daniel Torrico Menacho (violin), Karsten Kleijer (viola), Arno van der Vuurst (cello), Wurli Trio: Michiel Braam (piano), Pieter Douma (electric bass), Dirk-Peter Kölsch (drums)

Hybrid 10tet is financially supported by the Performing Arts Fund NL.
